Rev. Eng Rendered and Exploded

Wow. The whole process of digital fabrication is a big challenge for me. I like to get my hands dirty but this is like tying hands behind my back and relaying my process to a 3rd party for them to follow.
Alright.
This week I spent finishing up a reverse engineered model of a pencil sharpener. I took measurements with a digital caliper and translated real materiality into Rhino. I am very aware of my efficiency during modelling, A project that is likely done in an hour by experienced users took me around 9 hrs. My big problems included rogue surfaces, camera orientation, light management and hidden tools.
Safely on the other side, I have learned a great deal about approaching a 3D digital model.

  1. Those dreaded rogue surfaces! Glad you stuck with it and got through it. Looking forward to seeing you flex your developing cad skills!
